Digital Preservation Policy

Purpose

The scientific journal Panorama UNAB, published by Universidad Doctor Andrés Bello, recognizes digital preservation as a fundamental component in ensuring the long-term preservation, authenticity, integrity, accessibility, and permanent availability of the scholarly content it publishes.

In accordance with the principles of Open Science, Open Access, and international best practices in scholarly publishing, the journal implements digital preservation mechanisms that ensure continuous access to its contents, even in the event of technological changes, infrastructure failures, or interruptions to the editorial platform.

Objective

The purpose of this Digital Preservation Policy is to establish the mechanisms and strategies that ensure the long-term preservation of all content published by Panorama UNAB, guaranteeing its availability, recoverability, authenticity, and integrity for the academic and scientific communities, as well as for society at large.

Digital Preservation Strategy

To ensure the permanent preservation of its scholarly output, Panorama UNAB implements a comprehensive digital preservation strategy based on international standards and redundancy mechanisms that guarantee the long-term availability and recoverability of its published content.

The journal participates in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), a digital preservation service developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP) for journals using the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. The PKP PN employs LOCKSS technology, a distributed preservation system that maintains multiple copies of the journal's content across an international network of participating institutions. This model ensures the recovery of the official published version in the event of technical failures, data loss, editorial service interruptions, or changes in technological infrastructure.

As a complementary preservation and dissemination mechanism, Panorama UNAB maintains a historical archive of its published issues in Central American Journals Online (CAMJOL), thereby enhancing the availability, visibility, and long-term accessibility of the journal's scholarly content through a regional platform dedicated to academic publications.

In addition, Universidad Doctor Andrés Bello performs regular backups of the journal's editorial platform, databases, and associated digital files, strengthening operational continuity and information security.

The journal also ensures the permanent identification and citation of its articles through the use of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs): https://doi.org/10.63326

The combination of these preservation mechanisms ensures that the contents of Panorama UNAB remain accessible, recoverable, and trustworthy for researchers, faculty members, students, and the general public, thereby preserving the university's scientific and academic heritage.
